How to Match Bulk THCA Grade to a Value, Core, or Premium Retail Menu

Bulk THCA grade labels are useful only after you know whose labels they are. Indoor, Value Indoor, Light-Assisted, smalls and Boutique Exotic are menu lanes that help organize Plain Jane's current pounds. They are not interchangeable with another supplier's AA, AAA or “top shelf” system.

Match the actual pound to a retail role—value, core or premium—using current photos, bud format, price per ounce and batch evidence. Do not let the category name make the whole decision.

Start with the retail role

Role Customer promise Evidence the pound should provide
Value Clear price advantage with an honest presentation tradeoff Defined format, representative photos and a cost that supports the lane
Core Reliable middle position with broad, understandable appeal Coherent current lot, useful aroma description and sustainable unit cost
Premium Distinctive presentation or profile worth a higher price Current visual difference, specific product facts and a price customers can understand

One category can fill different roles in different stores. The intended package, customer and complete cost structure matter.

Read Plain Jane's Bulk lanes on their own terms

Light-Assisted

This lane can support a sharper price position and a broad menu. Evaluate the current flower, bud format and gallery rather than treating the cultivation term as a fixed quality score.

Indoor Smalls

This combines an Indoor lane with smaller-bud presentation. It can be useful for value packaging when showcase-sized buds are not central. Smalls do not guarantee identical chemistry to a separate full-size lot.

Value Indoor

Value Indoor can give a retailer Indoor positioning with more room for variation in bud size, shape, uniformity or trim. The exact current listing should make the tradeoff visible.

Indoor

Indoor full-size flower can serve a core or premium presentation depending on the current lot and cost. Indoor describes the cultivation environment; the batch determines how successfully the finished flower supports the role.

Boutique Exotic

This is the top presentation lane on the Plain Jane Bulk menu. It should earn that position through distinctive current flower and coherent product evidence, not merely a fashionable cultivar name or high potency result.

Convert the pound into the retail unit

Calculate product cost per ounce and per gram. Then add the business-specific costs that belong to your retail unit. A low pound price may support a value lane; a higher pound can support premium only when the delivered flower and customer-facing presentation justify the difference.

Do not publish supplier cost as a guaranteed margin. Packaging, labor, payment costs, shipping, verification, shrink and other expenses vary by operation.

Match format before grade adjectives

Bud size can be more visible to the customer than the cultivation label. A premium-sounding category in smalls format and an Indoor full-size pound solve different presentation problems. Record both fields in the buy decision.

The bulk smalls vs full-size guide covers this format choice. The live Indoor Smalls and Indoor collections supply current examples.

Use a grade-to-role worksheet

Swipe horizontally to compare all columns
Current pound Value role Core role Premium role
Price supports planned unit Required Required Required
Format matches package promise Clear tradeoff Clear standard Distinctive presentation
Photos explain the lot Representative Representative Representative and visibly differentiated
Aroma copy Honest Specific Specific and product-defining
Batch information Evaluated Evaluated Evaluated; no higher standard invented
Reason for role Unit value Balanced offer Named premium attributes

Do a small role test before deepening inventory

A one-pound purchase is already substantial. Keep the first test narrow and define success before the buy: target price lane, observation window, expected unit movement, markdown limit and reorder threshold. Compare results with products serving the same role.

A premium item should not be called a failure simply because a value item moves more units. A value item should not be called a success if it needs repeated discounts below the intended economics.

Update the role when the lot changes

The same cultivar name can return in a different category, format or price. Re-evaluate the role with each lot. Do not carry forward old photography, percentage or aroma copy without a current match.

Grade is a claim you must make understandable

The customer does not need the supplier's internal taxonomy. The customer needs an accurate product: what the flower is, how it is presented, why it sits in its price lane and which facts belong to the current batch.

Use the live Bulk THCA menu to compare pounds. Assign value, core or premium only after the current format, evidence and unit cost make the role defensible.
